Founded in 1986, Acura is currently a division of the Japanese Automaker Honda. They are most well known for being the first luxury division Honda established, focusing primarily on the North American market.
The first model of Acura was the Legend sedan in 1986, which included a 2.5L engine, multi-port fuel injection, and four-valve cylinder. The vehicle cost $20,000, the equivalent of over $47,000 in current value. Today, Acura makes a variety of luxury sedans and SUVs, with their current models including the Integra, ILX, NSX, MDX, and RDX. The most sales Acura has done in a single year was 209,610 in 2005.
Acura recently announced that they will build their first electric vehicle as a part of their partnership with General Motors. Using GM's Ultium battery technology and platform, Acura's EV model will be called "Precision". This EV will include several different driving modes, a wide yoke-style steering wheel, and a large touchscreen with haptic feedback. One of these driving modes is rumored to be fully autonomous, though Acura has not released any definite plans or timelines for this feature. Acura also intends to make its entire lineup of vehicles fully electric by 2040 and explore the possibility of creating a line of hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.
