Founded in 1935 in the United Kingdom, Jaguar is the luxury brand of multinational car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover. Originally Jaguar Cars, the company merged with Landrover in 2013 to form Jaguar Land Rover. Jaguar is best known for its line of sports and race cars and its 1941 and 1953 victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
The first automobile that Jaguar produced was the 1935 SS Jaguar Saloon, a 2-seat sports car built under Jaguar's original name, Swallow Sidecar. The car was said to be able to reach 100 miles per hour, an incredibly high speed for the time. The vehicle originally cost £395, or $466.90 USD (the equivalent of $9,234 in current value). Today, Jaguar makes a variety of crossovers, sedans, sports cars, and SUVs. Its current model lineup includes the F-Pace, E-Pace, I-Pace, F-Type, and XF. Jaguar had its highest sales occur in 2017 when it sold a total of 39,886 units.
Jaguar recently announced it plans to release three new EVs in 2024, with the possibility of showing a concept car by 2024. Currently, the only all-electric model that Jaguar offers is the Jaguar I-Pace SUV. The company is currently putting billions of dollars towards EV development, intending to have 100% of its sales be from its electric lineup by 2030.
