2012 SCION IQ The 2012 micro-subcompact Scion iQ is only 10 feet long yet seats four people, making it the world's smallest four-seater. With a 78.7-inch wheelbase and a unique suspension design the three-door hatchback can deftly maneuver through city traffic. Although short in length, the iQ has a wide stance at 66.1 inches, giving it a confident stance that handles like a much larger car. The 2012 iQ is equipped with a 1.3-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 94 horsepower and 89 lb.-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission. The 2012 iQ comes standard with safety features that drivers expect and demand. The iQ is packed with an industry leading 11 standard airbags, including the world's first rear window airbag. The iQ's profile, defined by a strong and high beltline, glides from the large, stout headlamps, up the A-pillar, across the roof and wraps around the rear, emphasizing the iQ's geometric shape. The iQ's functional "3+1" seating equates to the world's smallest four-passenger vehicle. The four-seat configuration is made possible because the driver and front passenger seats are slightly off set. The rear seats are extremely versatile, featuring a 50/50 split and the ability to fold flat, creating enough storage to accommodate large suitcases. The iQ truly focuses on youth with its all-new standard AM/FM/CD/HD/USB 160-watt Pioneer system. Standard for all 2012 Scions include Bluetooth, which allows hands-free phone connection, streaming audio capability, and HD Radio technology.

New Car Prices & Values
  • MSRP
The base MSRP listed in our Guide products are our representations of the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price, at the time of introduction, with standard equipment only. Our MSRP excludes taxes, transportation, and destination charges.
  • Gas Guzzler Tax
Manufacturers of new cars that fail to meet the minimum fuel economy level of 22.5 miles per gallon (mpg) have to pay a “Gas Guzzler Tax”. The tax is intended to discourage the production and purchase of fuel inefficient vehicles.
  • Destination Charge
A destination charge is a fee that comes from the cost of delivering a brand new vehicle to a dealership. Cars have to be prepped for transport, delivered, then prepared for sale at the dealer, so destination fees are an attempt to recoup those costs.

Recall #1
NHTSA Campaign #:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
Report Received Date:
November 08, 2012

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Scion IQ vehicles manufactured July 31, 2011, through October 12, 2012. The cable for the Occupant Classification System (OCS) may become damaged when sliding the passenger seat forward or backward.

If the cable for the OCS becomes damaged, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment.

Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective cover on the OCS weight sensor cable. The recall began on December 20, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
