Can-Am, a subsidiary of Bombardier Recreational Products, opened its doors in 1973, producing off-road motorcycles. In 1997, the company began producing ATVs and then the Can-Am Spyder three-wheeled motorcycles.
Can-Am created the torsional trailing arm independent rear suspension (TTI). This suspension provides a much better ride over the solid rear axle and better ride comfort. TTI suspensions are used extensively throughout the Can-Am product line.
Can-Am introduced its first motorcycle in the United States in 1971. The bikes were known for being extremely fast and very reliable. Each bike may have carried a production number of five to thirteen digits with no uniformity.

Location Of The Can-Am VIN
- Commander - The VIN is located under the glove box.
- Defender - The VIN is printed on a label that is found inside the passenger side wheel well.
- Maverick - The Location varies by model and year. VINs are printed on a label or statutory plate on the inside of the Maverick, on the front passenger side.
- Wildcat - VINs are stamped on the support tube inside the driver's side front tire and also on a plaque nearby.
- Spyder VIN - The Vin is located on the swing arm identification label.
- Ryker - >VIN is on the lower rear tube under the seat.
- VINs - Are also located on all ownership documentation, registration, insurance papers, and the owner’s manual.

Defender 6X6 Limited
The ultimate in climbing comfort, with cargo starting at $33,299. This hauler has plenty of features, including 82 hp/69 lb. ft of torque and a V-twin liquid-cooled engine. Its towing capacity is nearly 3000 lbs. with a payload capacity of 1200 lbs. The Can-Am Defender’s suspension offers its riders a smooth and controlled driving experience. Passenger and driver seats are comfortable for long-hauling situations. Six wheels, an extended chassis, and a large dump bed make the Defender a joy to ride, with plenty of power for hauling anything. There are over 21 different and well-equipped models to choose from.

TSB
NHTSA is recalling 9300 Can-Am Ryker Motorcycles. The vehicles have a handlebar stem bolt that may break suddenly, causing a loss of steering control and increasing the risk of a crash. Bombardier Products recommends that owners stop riding their vehicles until the recall repair is performed.
February 2024, NHTSA ID Number 23V856, Can-Am Model Year 2023 Can-Am® Spyder F3 and F3-Spyder. The rearview mirror lenses may dislodge from the housing. This can result in an increased risk of a crash due to the decreased visibility of the driver. BRP will replace both of the mirror assemblies at no charge to you (parts and labor). The procedure should take less than an hour. Parts for the repair are now available.
Recalls
February 2024, NHTSA recalled 23V855, Model Year 2019 to 2024 Can-Am Ryker. The fuel pump impeller could swell and cause the fuel pump to stop working. This could lead to an engine stall while driving without the ability to restart the vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash. BRP will inspect and, if necessary, replace the fuel pump at no charge to you (parts and labor). The procedure should take less than two hours. Parts for the repair are now available.
March 2023, NHTSA recall notice 23V175. Specific Spyder RT Model Year 2020 and 2021, Spyder RT Model Year 2022 and 2023, and Ryker Model Year 2022 and 2023. Potential contamination or component friction in the brake light switch may cause the brake lights to stay illuminated, even when the brake pedal is not pressed. If the brake lights remain illuminated, they can fail to alert other motorists of the rider's intention and increase the risk of a crash.
